This post title sounds like I know what I’m doing, when I clearly am learning along the way. The boyfriend and I are in the process of merging our households. We’ve both been living on our own so we each have an entire household full of stuff. Living in the same house has been awesome so far, but we’re still figuring out how to combine all our stuff into one functioning space. I’ve posted a couple things about my garden, (making garden beds and garden markers) so I thought it was about time for an update on how the garden is going. Well, short story is that my garden is schizophrenic. Some things are going great, others can’t decide, others have yet to do anything, and some have gone rogue!
My office had a company-wide clean up event last week. This is important because I love to sort stuff, so it’s like Disneyland in the office for me! But I’ve also discovered, while I am very organized I don’t really like getting rid of things (see last week’s post). As part of this work exercise, I’ve realized that I really need to sort through my papers at home too.
So, I’ve tried to gather some information to create household records retention guidelines for personal and household papers to help with sorting and purging files. Continue reading
So many pens!
My friend Jennifer is an expert baker. Seriously, she’s amazing. So, during her visit this week I asked if she could share one of her favorite recipes. She brought Triple Chocolate Brownies and oh boy are they awesome! The three types of chocolate make them incredibly chocolate-y, but they are also light and fluffy which is different from most brownie recipes I’ve made (ahem, boxed brownies). Jennifer’s recipe was altered from a recipe found in a cookbook called Santa’s Favorite Cookies, which has several other fabulous recipes, but I still think this one is the best. Continue reading

Garden markers are the only thing that would help me remember what I put where!
So now that I’ve got some nice garden beds going and some plants in the ground I need a better way to label them. Temporarily, I just put the plant markers and seed packets in the soil so I don’t loose their spots while I make something better. But those seed packets are waterproof and started to fall apart at the garden’s first watering. I looked online and realized there are lots of fancy garden markers out there. But since my garden is along my garage (and I’m generally not that fancy) I didn’t see any reason to buy something that cost more than the plants. So, I realized I needed to make something.
What is durable, customizable and cheap? I was looking around my garage and came up with paint stir-sticks. A little paint, and viola, garden markers!
I’ve always wanted raised garden beds. Not only does it make accessing your garden easier, but it’s also tidy and organized. So finally, I did it! Well, I should say WE did it. These are fairly easy to make, especially with a very handy helper (okay maybe I was really the helper in this case!)
