After combining households, our garage was a packed. While I had some nice cubbies the previous owner had installed, they were practically falling apart. Then the Boyfriend came home with a kitchen’s worth of free cabinets (my reaction: what! can’t you see what our garage already looks like!)
After my initial shock of coming home to this… Continue reading
When I talked about multiples I had around the house, one of the things I brought up was band-aids. I had 8 half-used boxes laying in a big pile! So I decided to organize our first aid supplies. In my house especially, band-aids should be easy to find! Safety first in our house, after all. This was a pretty quick project, only taking about 15-20 minutes. Continue reading
This post title sounds like I know what I’m doing, when I clearly am learning along the way. The boyfriend and I are in the process of merging our households. We’ve both been living on our own so we each have an entire household full of stuff. Living in the same house has been awesome so far, but we’re still figuring out how to combine all our stuff into one functioning space. This is further complicated by the fact that we are living in my house, not a new space. So how did we merge two households of stuff? Here’s what we’ve learned so far… Continue reading
My office had a company-wide clean up event last week. This is important because I love to sort stuff, so it’s like Disneyland in the office for me! But I’ve also discovered, while I am very organized I don’t really like getting rid of things (see last week’s post). As part of this work exercise, I’ve realized that I really need to sort through my papers at home too.
So, I’ve tried to gather some information to create household records retention guidelines for personal and household papers to help with sorting and purging files. Continue reading
So many pens!
We’re going through a major sort and purge at my house this month. Yes, we’re a little late to spring cleaning, but I say better late than never! Something I’ve realized is that just because I have the space to organize something, doesn’t mean I should keep it. I typically have everything categorized and nicely labeled in containers. But those nicely organized things in those nice containers are still things I don’t need.
My biggest clutter problem is multiples. Really, how many water bottles do I need when I always use the same two? Definitely not the 15 or so that I have in my kitchen cabinet! I’ve put together a list of my problem multiples, all of which I plan to pair down in the next week. While some of these are small things, they really add up and take up a lot of space. My plan to “get rid” of my extras will involve garage sale, donation, recycle, or trash, depending on what’s appropriate for that item. Continue reading
Ok, well it’s not really a secret. But it’s something that’s always worked for me. I’ve been told by my friends that I am a good gift giver. Little do they know I’m really just a fabulous list maker. Really fabulous, actually. This is a trait I inhereted from my mom. Not only the list making, but also the gift giving.
