Popcorn Tin Rehab

Tin Before

One thing always present during the holidays (which are almost here! Yikes!) are giant tins of popcorn. I’m not even sure who we get them from, but somehow they materialize at the house. Has anyone ever finished all the popcorn? Why would you even want a giant vat of stale popcorn? Maybe I’m just not a big enough popcorn fan to understand. But really, the tin itself is really pretty nice, with exception of the crazy christmas pattern.

Because of this, last year I decided to keep the popcorn tin until I figured out a craft project for it (yes, I’m a hoarder of containers!). I’m glad to say that, finally, I have figured it out!

Organized Hall Closet

IMG_2829 The hall closet can very easily become a mess. Sheets, towels, toiletries… they can into one giant messy avalanche. Our system has been to contain all the little stuff in plastic totes, allowing us to easily carry things into another room should we need to use them. Plus putting things away is a breeze. Here’s how I’ve organized our hall closet…

Installing Garage Cabinets

IMG_2630 After combining households, our garage was a packed. While I had some nice cubbies the previous owner had installed, they were practically falling apart. Then the Boyfriend came home with a kitchen’s worth of free cabinets (my reaction: what! can’t you see what our garage already looks like!)

After my initial shock of coming home to this… Continue reading

Organizing First Aid Supplies

IMG_2606 When I talked about multiples I had around the house, one of the things I brought up was  band-aids. I had 8 half-used boxes laying in a big pile! So I decided to organize our first aid supplies. In my house especially, band-aids should be easy to find! Safety first in our house, after all. This was a pretty quick project, only taking about 15-20 minutes. Continue reading

Getting Rid of Multiples

Pens

So many pens!

We’re going through a major sort and purge at my house this month. Yes, we’re a little late to spring cleaning, but I say better late than never! Something I’ve realized is that just because I have the space to organize something, doesn’t mean I should keep it. I typically have everything categorized and nicely labeled in containers. But those nicely organized things in those nice containers are still things I don’t need.
.
My biggest clutter problem is multiples. Really, how many water bottles do I need when I always use the same two? Definitely not the 15 or so that I have in my kitchen cabinet! I’ve put together a list of my problem multiples, all of which I plan to pair down in the next week. While some of these are small things, they really add up and take up a lot of space. My plan to “get rid” of my extras will involve garage sale, donation, recycle, or trash, depending on what’s appropriate for that item. Continue reading

What will you keep forever?

Just a quick question before the holiday weekend. What piece of clothing will you never get rid of? Well, Karen over at the Art of Doing Stuff just asked that question too. Head on over to her fantastic blog (my favorite) to see some great responses, as well as mine! I know I’m all about organization and getting rid of excess stuff, but really there will always be some things I hold on to.

So, what super cool things will you keep forever?

Craft Supply Organization

IMG_1702
I have the wonderful luxury of having a entire room dedicated to craftiness. This room is a new concept for me. Up until I moved into my house 1.5 years ago I always lived in small apartments, which definitely did not come with a craft room. The way I store and organize my craft supplies now is how I did it back then. Now I can just leave things a mess and close it behind a door! For the record, my craft room is never as tidy as it is in these pictures!
